Hello, my name is Joanna.
Growing up, no one talked to me about sex. It wasn't taught at school, and it was a taboo topic at home.
My main source of knowledge was Bravo, a monthly magazine with a column about puberty and sexual initiation. The rest of my information came from friends. Neither source was reliable. When I decided to start having sex, I went to ask my mother about contraception but didn't learn much. Instead, she took me to a gynecologist. I was nearly 18 years old at the time. When I told the doctor I wanted to have sex with my boyfriend, she reacted sternly, asking, "Why??!!!"
I asked about contraception, knowing only of condoms and some pills, but without understanding them. My grandmother prescribed me a pill 72 hours later without any explanation. We bought the prescription and read the leaflet, confused about whether I should take it after every sexual encounter. After the first time, when the pill disrupted my period, we decided to stick with condoms and try to figure out sex on our own.
Now, as a psychologist and sexologist, I observe that sex is often still taboo in family homes.
Parents don't know how or are afraid to talk to their children about it. Sexual education is lacking in Polish schools, leading to young people often not receiving reliable knowledge. This lack of information can cause difficulties and problems that sometimes require help from psychologists, therapists, and sexologists. I believe many of these difficulties could be avoided.
Hence, the idea for this website: a space where everyone can ask questions, share experiences, and discuss difficult topics. You can also ask questions to specialists, and if you want to talk more, I invite you to sexological consultations with me.
